Open Graph & social preview

How Facebook, X, LinkedIn and WhatsApp will render your link.

Full address of the page whose preview is checked, for example https://www.example.com/article. The check only fetches the page.

How this tool works

How does the link to your page look when someone posts it on Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, WhatsApp or Slack? Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags in the HTML decide. This preview check fetches your URL server-side (just like bots do), extracts all relevant meta tags — og:title, og:description, og:image, og:type, og:site_name, twitter:card, twitter:image — plus title/description/canonical/robots. You see a mock-up of the card and side by side a full listing of every tag, so missing values stand out instantly.

Typical use cases

  • Before newsletter or social-media send, verify the preview
  • After frontend deployment, check tag rendering (CMS sometimes has its own templates)
  • Ensure og:image has the correct size (at least 1200×630 for Facebook)
  • Verify Twitter Card variant (summary, summary_large_image) against expectation
  • Check canonical URL — without it, Google sees duplicate content risk

Frequently asked questions

Which og:image size is optimal?

1200×630 px (1.91:1) for Facebook and LinkedIn. X (Twitter) needs summary_large_image at min 800×418, ideally 1200×630. WhatsApp uses og:image from min 200×200.

What happens if og:image is missing?

Platforms try to grab the first suitable image on the page. The result is usually a random logo or icon — bad for click-through.

Do I need Twitter Card tags in addition to Open Graph?

X falls back to og:* if twitter:* is missing. Twitter-specific tags are only needed if you want a different look on X vs other platforms — e.g. summary_large_image there, summary on LinkedIn.

og:url vs canonical — what is the difference?

canonical is for search engines (Google), og:url for social platforms. They should both point to the same URL — otherwise confusion arises when sharing across URL variants.

Why does the Facebook debugger show a different preview than you?

Facebook caches og data for 24h. After tag changes you must explicitly hit "Scrape Again" in the FB Sharing Debugger. We cache nothing — you see the current HTML.
