What are heartbeats and API monitoring?
In short
Heartbeats are a dead-man’s switch for cron jobs and backups; API monitoring checks endpoints regularly for response and content.
With heartbeats, a job (such as a nightly backup) checks in with XICTRAQ regularly. If the expected signal is missing, an alert is triggered — so a silently failed background process is noticed immediately.
API monitoring calls defined endpoints at an interval and checks status code, response time and content against expected values. This allows you to monitor interfaces that are invisible to visitors but critical to operations.
