ACTIVE
WCAG 2.2 audit (real axe-core)
Scan, monitoring and outreach check with real axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA — more than 60 rules instead of simple HTML heuristics, including new 2.2 criteria such as target size (2.5.8). axe-core is the widely used standard for automated accessibility testing.
Accessibility Score
Overall rating from 0 to 100 with a grade plus a breakdown into violations, items requiring manual review and passed rules.
Contrast and Color Check
Automatic check of color contrasts against WCAG minimums (4.5:1 for text, 3:1 for large text). Plus links that stand out from surrounding text by color alone.
Semantics and ARIA Analysis
Check of HTML semantics (heading hierarchy, landmarks, form labels) and correct ARIA attributes. Detection of screen reader barriers.

What it does

From June 2025, the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) requires many businesses to ensure digital accessibility. XICTRAQ automatically scans your website for WCAG 2.2 violations, calculates an accessibility score and provides prioritized remediation guidance. Track your progress over weeks and months -- and ensure your website is accessible to everyone.

02 / 07

Contrast and Color Check

Automatic check of color contrasts against WCAG minimums (4.5:1 for text, 3:1 for large text). Plus links that stand out from surrounding text by color alone.

03 / 07

Semantics and ARIA Analysis

Check of HTML semantics (heading hierarchy, landmarks, form labels) and correct ARIA attributes. Detection of screen reader barriers.

04 / 07

Keyboard Navigation

The automatable keyboard rules of axe-core: nested interactive controls, scrollable regions and frames that cannot be focused, focusable elements under aria-hidden. Keyboard traps, visible focus and a logical tab order belong in the manual test.

05 / 07

Accessibility Statement (§ 14 BFSG)

Separate from the technical WCAG scan, XICTRAQ checks whether an accessibility statement is linked — and how deep it is in content. The text is searched for three building blocks of the EU model accessibility statement (Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2018/1523): a feedback / contact mechanism for reported barriers, a conformance-status statement and a creation / last-updated date. A missing building block triggers an info hint. XICTRAQ does not check item by item the information that § 14(1) no. 2 BFSG with Annex 3 requires from service providers. A presence and content check only, not a legal review.

06 / 07

BFSG Compliance Report

Report with the violations, their severity, the number of affected elements and a link to the remediation guide for each rule.

Process

How it works

1

Scan your website

XICTRAQ performs a complete accessibility audit on your website. The first scan delivers your baseline score.

2

Fix violations by priority

Results are sorted by impact: critical, serious, moderate, minor. Each violation names the rule and the number of affected elements and links the remediation guide.

3

Track progress

After each correction, XICTRAQ shows your updated score. Track development over time and ensure BFSG compliance before the deadline.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the BFSG and who is affected?
The German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) implements EU Directive 2019/882 and from June 2025 requires companies offering digital products and services to consumers to ensure accessibility. Affected are online shops, banking services, e-books and more.
Which WCAG level is tested?
XICTRAQ tests against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, as this is the requirement of the BFSG and EU directive. Level A (basic) and Level AA (enhanced) are covered.
What is used to test WCAG — a custom heuristic or an established tool?
XICTRAQ checks with real axe-core, the widely used standard for automated accessibility testing, against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA. Instead of a simple HTML heuristic, more than 60 rules run, including the new 2.2 criteria such as target size (2.5.8). The same engine is used in the scan, in ongoing monitoring and in outreach. Three 2.2 criteria — Consistent Help, Redundant Entry and Accessible Authentication — cannot be tested automatically in principle and belong in the manual review.
Can an automated scan find all accessibility issues?
No. Automated tests detect only part of all WCAG violations. Aspects like meaningful alt texts, logical reading order or understandable language require manual testing. Whatever axe-core cannot decide reliably, XICTRAQ lists as needing manual review.
How is the accessibility score calculated?
In ongoing monitoring the score starts at 100 and deducts points per violated rule by severity: critical 15, serious 10, moderate 5, minor 2, multiplied by the number of affected elements (at most 3). Critical violations (e.g. missing alt texts on images) therefore weigh more than moderate ones. The website scan takes the accessibility score from Lighthouse, which is also based on axe-core.
Does XICTRAQ check the accessibility statement itself?
Yes — separately from the technical WCAG scan. XICTRAQ checks whether an accessibility statement is linked and whether it contains the building blocks of the EU model accessibility statement (Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2018/1523): a feedback / contact mechanism for reported barriers, a conformance-status statement and a creation or last-updated date. A missing building block triggers an info hint. This is a presence and content check, not a legal review and not a replacement for the axe-core WCAG scan.
Does XICTRAQ support PDF accessibility?
Currently, XICTRAQ checks web page accessibility (HTML). XICTRAQ does not check linked PDF documents.
How quickly can I achieve accessibility?
This depends on the current state of your website. Typically, the most common violations (missing alt texts, contrast issues, missing labels) can be fixed within a few days. For full WCAG AA compliance, plan for several weeks.
