Time zone & country by IP

Derives from an IP the time zone (offset, DST, local time), calling code, currency, official languages, EU membership and the country — as an estimate.

An IP address, for example 1.1.1.1. Leave empty to check your own address.

How this tool works

This page derives regional localization data from an IP address: the time zone with UTC offset, daylight saving status (DST) and current local time, plus calling code, currency, common official languages, EU membership, continent and country name. This is useful to sensibly pre-fill incoming requests — for example time format, currency or language. The mapping is based on open IP-geo data and is an estimate; with VPNs, cellular or carrier-grade NAT it can deviate from the actual location. With an empty field your own IP is used.

Typical use cases

  • Pre-fill time format and local time appropriately for an incoming request
  • Suggest currency and calling code in checkout or contact forms by region
  • Sort support requests by the senders time zone — when is it business hours there?
  • Pre-select the language of a landing page based on the regions official languages
  • Check whether an IP maps to an EU country (a GDPR-relevant pre-check)

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the time zone by IP?

At country level it is usually reliable. In countries with multiple time zones or with VPNs and cellular the mapping can deviate. The result is an estimate and should be confirmed by the user for critical time calculations.

Does the tool account for daylight saving (DST)?

Yes. It shows whether the time zone is currently in daylight saving, including the current offset and computed local time. The switch between summer and winter time is already reflected in the offset.

What are calling code, currency and language?

The telephone calling code (e.g. +49), the country currency (e.g. EUR) and the common official languages of the detected region. These factual data help pre-fill forms and interfaces sensibly.

What does the EU flag mean?

It indicates whether the detected country belongs to the European Union. This is a coarse pre-check, e.g. for assessing GDPR relevance — it does not replace a legal evaluation.

Does it work with IPv4 and IPv6?

Yes, both are supported. With an empty input field the IP your browser used for the request is taken.

Are the queried IPs stored?

No. The query is processed in memory and not stored for tracking purposes. This page sets no cookies; our own cookieless reach measurement records no values you enter.
